Power-first estimator

Start with the power your site can actually get. These are planning quantities, not equipment selections.

Fixed rules do the first pass in your browser; an engineer checks everything before the 24-hour first design.

This calculator uses fixed rules locally. Your inputs stay in your browser until you choose to send them to an engineer. For the first design, send four inputs: site, IT load, available power and target date. The extra settings below help refine this estimate.

Lead-time flags

  • Transformers and MV switchgear: plan 30–60 weeks
  • Generators: 20–40 weeks

Planning windows only; confirm with suppliers. Unit counts exclude site derating and protection studies. Supply voltage is recorded for review; it does not change these counts.

What this can't tell you

  • Site survey: boundaries, access and existing services.
  • Grid connection agreement: firm capacity and connection date.
  • Soil: bearing capacity, groundwater and foundations.
  • Permits: planning, fire, water and emissions approvals.
  • Real cost: needs a checked scope and supplier offers.

IT capacity is capped by dividing grid power by a planning facility-to-IT ratio (the high end of each band). This is a planning ratio for peak demand, not an annual PUE promise or a load study. At 40 kW/rack and above, liquid cooling lowers both ends of the ratio by 0.05; actual results depend on the complete cooling system.
